Undress, 4th Volunteer Battalion DLI
Officer's Undress Uniform, 4th Volunteer Battalion DLI, about 1900. This rifle green undress jacket has scarlet facings (collar and cuffs) with black lace and cord. The round forage cap is black edged with lime green cord and has a silver badge. The 4th Volunteer Battalion DLI recruited in Durham and Chester le Street. In 1908, it became the 8th Battalion DLI. This undress uniform belonged to Gerard Roberts, who joined the Rifle Volunteers in 1897. He was killed in action, as a Lieutenant Colonel, in 1916 on the Western Front.
