Tunic, Corporal 1st Volunteer Battalion DLI

Corporal's Full Dress Tunic, 1st Volunteer Battalion DLI, 1887-1902. This red jacket, which belonged to Corporal J Connor of Castle Eden, has white facings (collar and cuffs) and the shoulder titles are in white embroidery on red - '1', 'V', bugle, 'DURHAM'. On the upper right sleeve is the Corporal's rank badge of 2 silver lace chevrons (stripes) and above the cuff are 6 five-pointed stars, given for 30 years' efficient service. The 1st Volunteer Battalion DLI had its Headquarters in Darlington. It became the 5th (Territorial) Battalion DLI in 1908. Acc No: 215
