Sword, North Durham Militia
Bandsman's Sword & Scabbard, 2nd North Durham Militia, 1853-1855. This sword has a curved, steel blade and brass hilt (handle) with a lion's head. The scabbard is also made of brass. The hilt is marked 'NDM 10'. The North Durham Militia was formed in 1853 in Durham City. In 1881 the Regiment became the 4th Battalion DLI.
