Ink wash drawing of 68th Light Infantry waiting for the dawn attack on Gate Pah, New Zealand, 29 April 1864. This was drawn by Lieutenant Horatio Robley, who served with the 68th Light Infantry in New Zealand during the Second Maori War, 1864-1866 and fought in the battles of Gate Pah and Te Ranga. The soldiers are wearing blue frocks (jackets), forage caps and some have their greatcoats rolled and tied across their backs. The British attack at Gate Pah (Maori fort) failed at the cost of over 100 killed and wounded. Acc No: 2105. This watercolour was purchased with the financial assistance of the Army Museums Ogilby Trust.
