Consett, Greenhead Arch
Greenhead Arch, entrance to Black Hedley Hall. Caption in album (c.1934) reads ".. birthplace of John Graham Lough [sculptor] 1798. Built by a member of the Hopper family who placed upon the roofed and embattled archway wooden cannon and seven military figures, one at each corner, one over the centre of the arch back and front and one crowning the apex of the roof. Mr Silvertops of Minsteracres was his noble patron". Exact location unknown, reference works give Lough's birthplace as "Greenhead, a hamlet near Consett".
