Officer's Mess Dress, 1st South Durham Militia, 1853-1869. This scarlet mess jacket has white facings (collar and cuffs) and silver lace. This uniform belonged to Archibald Cochrane of Langton Grange, County Durham, who served in the South Durham Militia from 1853 to 1869. In 1881, the South Durham Militia became the 3rd Battalion DLI. Acc No: 4113.4
