Caption in album reads: "The residence of the Hon S R Vereker. The arrangements of the mansion and grounds were projected and partly executed in 1769 by Henry Swinburn who sold the estate in 1806 to Anthony Surtees who completed it. Robert Smith Surtees, author of 'Handley Cross' inherited the estate in 1836."
