Darlington, High Row, Mechanic's Yard, tunnel
Subterranean passage discovered during work in Mechanic's Yard. Thought by local antiquarian Edward Wooler to date from "the Civil War period when 30,000 men were concentrated in Darlington under the Earl of Stafford". Alternatively it could be identified as a 19th century sewer.
