Letter Box, 4th Battalion DLI, 1891. This wooden letter box is in the form of a sentry box with a watercolour painting of a Private soldier wearing his undress uniform and Glengarry cap. This box was presented to the 4th Battalion DLI's Officers' Mess in July 1891 by Captain E F Gales. This battalion was formed in 1881 from the North Durham Militia in Durham City. Acc No: 100
