Bass Drum, 17 Para Regiment
Bass Drum, 17th Battalion The Parachute Regiment, about 1950. This drum was made by Boosey & Hawkes originally for the 5th (Territorial) Battalion DLI but was later re-painted for the 17th Battalion The Parachute Regiment. The drum has a wooden shell with the skin heads tensioned by whitened ropes. Painted on the drum are both DLI and Parachute Regiment badges but no Battle Honours. In 1948 the 9th Battalion DLI in Gateshead became the 17th Battalion The Parachute Regiment.
