Badge, Durham Militia

Officer's Cross Belt Plate, Durham Militia, 1803-1816. This silver plate (badge) was made, according to the paper label on the back, by 'G Hunter and Co, Edinburgh'. On the front is the Roman numeral 'XXV' (25), which was the Durham Militia's precedence number from 1803 until the end of the Napoleonic Wars. This plate belonged to Captain William Huner Burne, who joined the Durham Militia in 1806. Acc No: 1630
