Slouch Hat, 2nd Volunteer Battalion DLI

Other Rank's Full Dress Slouch Hat, 2nd Volunteer Battalion DLI, 1904-1908. This slouch hat is made from black felt with a red-over-green hackle. The white metal cap badge is a crowned bugle with '2 VB DLI' inside the strings. The Volunteer Battalions of the DLI all sent groups of volunteers to South Africa during the Boer War, where slouch hats was worn by Colonial troops and others. After the war, some of the Durham Volunteers adopted the slouch hat as part of their Full Dress uniform. Acc No: 1318
