Mauser Carbine, 1896. This bolt-action carbine rifle was made in Berlin in Germany and has a calibre of 7mm. The internal magazine held 5 rounds of ammunition. This carbine was captured during the Boer War and brought back to Durham as a souvenir of the war in South Africa. The original Boer owner had carved his initials 'VA' in the wooden stock. Acc No: 4
