Saddle Cloth, 2 Durham Militia

Officer's Saddle Cloth, 2nd North Durham Militia, about 1870. A saddle cloth was an item of 'horse furniture' placed under the saddle of a horse. This saddle cloth was used by a Field Officer in the 2nd North Durham Militia. Only Field Officers (Major, Lieutenant Colonel and Colonel) of an infantry regiment rode horses; the other officers marched with their soldiers. Acc No: 710
