On 2 April 1936 Darlington celebrated the 21st anniversary of its attaining County Borough status. A civic dinner was held in the Queen's Hall, guests on the top table included Lady Starmer, Lady Gainford, the Mayor and Mayoress and Chief Officers of the Corporation, together with their wives.
